Christian Aubry (aka Ami Calmant) was born in Paris over 50 years ago, has been a communicator for over 30 years, has been living in Montreal for the last 20 years and defines himself today as a free-lance Web communicator and video reporter. He was an Internet journalist as early as in 1997, a blogger since 2003, and he explores the Web Video Communication frontier since 2006. He also thinking loudly the future of “Open Sources Journalism“.
After his university studies in Art History, Christian Aubry worked in Marketing Research and Travel & Tourism before becoming a professional journalist in France in the mid-80s. In 1989, he moved to Montreal and pursued his career in the Tourism business.
In 1997 he was fascinated by the Internet and grabbed the Managing Editor seat at a daily tech news Web media called Multimedium. In 1999, he launched an online travel startup eventually acquired by the Vancouver-based inbound tour operator SNV International that collapsed after the 9/11 attack.
Then Aubry turned to consultancy, managing Tour & Travel computing systems, writing Web content at 90 degrés for Via Rail, and advising the Web team at CRIM. In August 2002, he produced RISQ’s (Quebec Scientific Information Network) new Web site and was hired one year later as a Webmaster and Communication Specialist. He managed there various projects related to Web, Open Source computing, application services, and organized the RISQ’s annual conference from 2004 up to 2008.
In February 2006 Christian resigned from RISQ that became the first customer of his new company, Economie Logique Communications.
He organized two conferences, writed magazine stories, managed the developement of LogiqueLibre.com, shooted and webcasted two seminars. In the meantime he explored new cutting-edge standards of digital video journalism and corporate ways of communicating with video, blogs and social medias.
In November 2006 he was a co-founder of YULBUZZ.TV, one of the first ever French-Canadian videoblogs, for which he carried all the production and post-production tasks as well as the blog editing until the next summer.
In July 2007 he was joined by Laurent Maisonnave and they launched the Canadian edition of the tech/business videoblog Intruders.TV as well as Videopresse, a trademark for their Web Video Communication services.
By October 2008, Laurent and Christian published the last videopresse clip in which they unfold the end of their company. Christian now works as an independent producer for various companies, associations and other medias.
